Have you seen the Netflix original Ozark? The crime drama, is now back for season 4.
The Byrde’s house is real, but it’s not located in the Ozarks as depicted in the show. According to the website Filming Locations, Ozark was primarily filmed in and around Atlanta.
The Real-Life Location: Where Was Ozark Filmed?
The 2,513-square-foot, mid-century home is actually located on 1.27-acres on Gaines Ferry Road in Flowery Branch, Georgia.
The Byrde family buys a house from a dying man who can live in the basement until he dies. Meanwhile Marty begins laundering money with the locals.
The house itself is nestled on the lakeside, offering beautiful views of the water. It reflects the isolation the Byrde family feels as they descend deeper into their criminal activities.
The Architectural Charm of the Ozark Lake House
This is a different view of the home that we don’t see a lot. You can see a little more of the artwork, lamps and decor.
The rustic yet modern design of the house features large windows that provide a full view of the lake, bringing water views into almost every room.
Architectural Digest tells readers that it was love at first site for the scouts. “It’s so unusual looking,” he says. “And with those windows, you get to see the water no matter which direction you point the camera.”
Ozark executive producer and Chris Mundy tells the magazine, “We could have built an interior on a soundstage, but we wanted that water.”
The entry way has stone walls which match the fireplace. Family photos hang gallery style making the houses feel more like their home. The actors actually posed at a studio at the start of the show’s production so they would have photos to display.
How to Visit the Ozark Lake House
For those who want to experience the Ozark lake house firsthand, it is privately owned, so tours aren’t available. However, fans of the show often visit the surrounding Lake Lanier area in Georgia to take in the natural beauty and imagine themselves in the world of the Byrdes.
Additionally, several other locations featured in the series are accessible, including the Blue Cat Lodge (which was built for the show) and the surrounding lake areas.
